Subject:Re: How's this Clone Blast from the Past? Yamaha sk20.
I have an SK-20 that I bought used back around 1981/2. About a year
ago I had to replace a transistor that I let the smoke out of and a
resistor that looked burned. I think this was caused by a bad volume
pedal. Other than that it has worked fine all these years.
I run the organ output into the effects return of my XK-3. With
similar drawbar settings, you would have a hard time deciding which
one you are hearing. There is a difference in the tones but it is
hard to distinguish. The SK-20 only has 7 drawbars. It is missing the
2 between 2' and 1'. Also, the lower octaves of the 16' drawbar are
pretty bass heavy. This is probably so you could play left hand bass
on the low octaves and still play notes and chords up higher. Until
the XK-3 came out, I had not heard anything that I thought was as
realistic but I only started looking in the late 90's.
The Synth section doesn't sound too bad either. You can position the
wave form selector switch between two wave forms and combine them.
I thought about offering it up to the eBay gods a few years ago and
decided I use/enjoy it too much.
