Subject:Re: VK-8 for sale

I think the XM1 was in the Xk2 family with the VaseII format, which by
today's standards doesn't cut it.
If you're considering an XK3 however, I'd hold off until NAMM '07
winter show... IF and I say IF the rumors are true about a new version
XK3 (with the new hardware features of the XK1) the first generation
XK3 prices will drop considerably (I predict $1799-1899 "new")
Despite the complete flexability in programming the XK3 has, I still
don't think it justifies the $2100 price tag.
Ryan, I wouldn't take looks so much as a factor in buying your next
clonewheel. You'll be the one who sees it the most when you play. To
me, its the sound and ease of use of controls as you play live. The
VK8, V5, and the XK's raw tonewheel structure are all top notch (at
least 98% perfect) but its the extra features and looks and name that
you will get stuck paying for. For the cost of a new XK3, I could get
a V5+, and custom-build a double manual MIDI waterfall controller and
maybe pedalboard; BUT you lose the extra set of drawbars and pedal
drawbars and the Voce is bright orange. Consider the tradeoffs and
sacrifices and potential end-game benefits of the rig.
Keep in touch with us Ryan, and when you do sell the VK8, and decide
on your new clonewheel, what were the factors in your decision. I'm
still doing my homework on this, because I'm about to spring on a
completely new rig myself.
