this is very treu,
but you have to deal with a drummer who wil get lud when he is in
his/the mood this is because those snare and ride's and cimbals are
about 110 db.

when you standing on the other side of the rig it is louder than for the
drummer!
So when you are as near as 3 meter from him away it wil stil be 90-100 db.

The most guitar combo's sound better at a higher volume this is because
of the bass sounds which are noticeble at a higher volume.

then the bass is playing over a 15' speaker which is at its loudest
about 4 meters away.... and he wil onley hear the higher frequencies to
know what tone he is playing.

I have seen a band playing with plasic curved boards around the ride's
and cymbals.....
best thing to do is set the drummer in the bath room and mic him with
one or two mic's and put those thru the keboard amp ... :-) lol.
or get a bigger rehersal room.
put blankets on the cymablas... :-) lol.
build a plasic case aroud the drummer or for half the rig.. or onley
round the cymbals.

then get the guitar player to the music shop and go listen together to
some bigger amps which have a better tone at lower volumes.. I have don
this an it is very good thing to do. take a day or two for it and leave
girlfrends, wifes, and childeren on holyday or some thing... :-) don't
take them with you!

oh eh ore a elektronic drum kit..
