Subject:Re: XK-3 Output Tube

This may be a double post. I just sent a reply but had to re-log in so
I don't know if it was actually sent.

The XK-3 takes 2 tubes. You might try finding a pair of old Hammond
labelled Amperex tubes. Old GE, RCA, Sylvania, Raytheon etc. tubes
sound great as well. You may find Hammond labelled GE tubes and Baldwin
labelled tubes from several manufacturers as well. Toward the end of
the "Great tube manufacturing era", one tube company would buy another
co's tubes and put their label on them to fill orders so you might find
a printed brand name on a tube that has the RCA etched "stop sign" with
12AX7 etched inside for example. Different tubes have their own
clean/overdriven characteristics so you might try a couple/few
different pairs. I have found that used tubes sound just as good as NOS
so eBay may be your friend. Find a couple/few different pairs for $15 -
$25/pair shipping included on eBay.

Good Luck and enjoy your XK-3.
