No, the Howler was a switchable circuit option, not a tube change. You had the ability to introduce or remove the Howler with a switch on the front of the unit.

I haven't been following the list much lately, so I may have missed
something, but I noticed, when looking over the Speakeasy website,
that there doesn't seem to be a Howler option offered anymore. Is it
still possible to order the preamp with that tube? Or the option that
let you switch from one to the other?
