Subject:Re: rotor syncing
Hi Ryan et al,

Absolutely true. And if I might carry the thread a little further: If the sync-rotor effect was superior to the random-rotors approach, then Leslie 18 and 125 models would be commanding top dollar, and Leslie 122 and 760 models would be available for cheap prices, or even free sometimes. Since the opposite is true, I think that it kind of says it all.
Perhaps the most famous use of a single/sync rotor was Goldy McJohn of Steppenwolf. Everything that I've read implies that this was purely accidental: he blew the tweeter from playing too loud, and a tech rewired his 122/147 to bypass the crossover. Thus began the "Born to be Wild" sound. It's interesting to note that by the time of the Steppenwolf Live album -- and maybe even the recording of Magic Carpet Ride -- Mr. McJohn's setup was back to using standard two-rotor Leslies, without any sync.
