I used the Caribbean Controls in fact, and I didn't find a way to unsynch the motors, but then again, I'm very tech inclined. :) Another thing that I didn't like was the torque for slow/chorale didn't seem strong enough, so the rotation wasn't very smooth. However, I liked it much more than just fast/off.
