Subject:RE: Gear in trunk outside vs hot days

Just so you don't think I'm messing with you Walter, living here in Chicago, we get both extremes of hot/humid, and cold as hell. For 4 years with Hello Dave, my road rig was stored in the trailer all the time. No problems. Just during the winter, you make sure you let your gear reach room temperature before removing from cases and turning on (condensation).

Otherwise, while it doesn't sound like a great idea, the reality is it's no big deal. Remember, this is what touring pros do all the time: those semi trailers aren't "climate controlled."

Subject: [CWSG] Gear in trunk outside vs hot days

Can I get some advice on leaving keyboard/amp gear in the trunk of
my car overnight and through the heat of the next day? I've got safe
outdoor parking near my front door. Already on 75 degree days, the
air is so clear some days near the coast and the ultraviolet index
is so high, it's more like a 90+ degree day outside, barely
tolerable in a car with no AC, so the trunk?

I use a 91 Ford Crown Vic police interceptor as my gear truck. My
friends say if this was 'mob' car, it's a 4-body trunk, LOL - really
huge, can get almost a full combo's amps and gear in it.. but in the
heat?

When I get home at night and I'm feeling too tired to put keyboards
and amps away, but do it anyway, I've been wondering if I could get
away with leaving one or two of my good keyboards (like
Electro/VCombo and FBT/JBL powered PA cabs) with gear bag inside
without resulting damage and/or if some kind of insulation blanket
on top before closing would help.

I'd imagine on a hot day the trunk temp is 140 degrees just like the
inside of a car with all the windows up tight from mid-day until
early evening. Seems like a bad idea to me, but maybe.. it's a low-
gloss white car 'quickie-painted' for sale from a California State
auto auction, was a Fire Marshall's car, low miles, no chases, full
police package, clean Carfax.

All tips, info, advice greatly appreciated. TIA ~ Walter

*I hope nobody minds if I cross post this to both CWSG and NE groups
in case someone has a good idea but doesn't visit the 'other side.'
