I believe it was for reliability reasons.
For example:
There never would have been a Carribbean Control if Speakeasy did not
have problems with the OEM he was using prior.

There would not have been a motor substitute if the original motors were
still available.

There never would have been a Speakeasy Road Box if the sound and
quality build of Leslie and Motion Sound was up to Speakeasy standards.

Basically most of the industry is cutting costs to increase prophets at
the end users expense and that dose not go with the Speakeasy
philosophy.

Thanks for the info. I dug around in the Speakeasy online store and
found both the custom motor he designed and the speed controller. I
wonder if he chose to do it that way for weight reasons.
