Subject:RE: Speakeasy Roadbox - what's in it?
I saw & heard the Speakeasy Road-Box-3 May 15th.
The horn motor is twice the classic Leslie motor HP and is a single
motor with its slow speed regulated with a Carribbean Control. The motor
has a similar mount to the cabinet but it is different than the older
Leslies as is the way the horn spins. There is no belt tension
mechanism.
The amp is a reproduction Leslie with a few changes. Inputs can be 122
or 147 or ¼” with a Speakeasy Classic pre-amp in the RB-3.
The bass speaker is a 12” stationary speaker and the bass enclosure was
built around it. The treble driver has a lower operating frequency than
the Jensen V21.
The combination of the treble and bass drivers uses a lower crossover
point than a 122 or 147 to achieve the desired sound. You really have to
hear this Speakeasy RB-3.
Many other have commented on the superior sound and build quality so I
won’t be repetitive. If I remember correctly, it weighs 94 pounds and is
24” high.
