I have looked over the block diagrams and schematics and found them to be
pretty confusing.

My ears tell me that putting that slide switch in the third position
disables the 5" speakers. My understanding is that the 2101 does not handle
any info under 125 hz, instead it puts it out for external processing. This
makes sense, given the limited bass response of the 5" speakers.

When I put that switch in the third position, I hear a noticable lack of
lower end (not deep bass, but mid-bass) and I'm pretty certain that's
dropping the frequencies from 125-700 (or 800 or 1k, depending on your upper
x-over frequency)
