Christian,

Check out www.tonewheelgeneral.com for his XK system B3 style stands. If he doesn't have his stands on the web page, then email him and ask. I bought one and really like it. Much cheaper than all of the R&D and custom work you're facing. Why reinvent the wheel?

Subject: [CWSG] B3 cabinet for XK-3 and XLK-3

Just to say that I finally found a traditional high quality furniture workshop and the owner is willing to fabricate all the parts to turn my XK-3 and XLK-3 (lower keyboard) into a portable, foldable, fit-for-the-road construction that looks like a B3.

It is a huge task. I can't let the keyboards inside the workshop. The sawdust in that old fashioned family owned workshop would find its way into the keyboards and ruin eveything. What I do is fabricate 1:1 mockups of the more complex parts using cheap plywood and balsawood. I have plans including the turned legs, so a cardboard template will do. Then I will test-fit the defitite parts, as they come in, to my XK's in the rehearsal room.

One of the problems to overcome is not touching the XK-3 in any way. I want to be able to take it out of the cabinet anytime unharmed if ever necessary. All parts need to be made in a matching medium - not too red - mahogany color - which I also happen to like very much for a B3. The solid wooden parts that flank the XK keyboards have a color which I would describe as a mix of mahogany and cherry-wood. Most other wooden parts (in a matching color) used by Hammond Suzuki look like MDF to me.

I will take pictures and keep you posted on my progress.

Christian
