It's true that in recent years Floyd and Waters have used Kurzweil gear, but those synths didn't have the ballz of analog.

Personally, while I'm amazed at what you can do with Kurzweil gear, the sound always left me cold.

Pink Floyd use Kurzweil

I want those sounds too

Right now I have them

I have a Kurzweil 2600XS
I has all the sounds (piano's, organs, guitars etc...) acept the Moog sounds
it is possible to create them with the Kurzweil but it is not easy.

I have played with a rock band and the guitarist had some awsome sound! but when we played the drummer didn't know when I was making the guitar sound or the guitar player.......... He saw it when the guiter player stopped playing....

I use for the Moog sounds a VA synth and a softsyth MoogV.
I add to save some polyfony the soft organ B4.

All your whiches regarding the changing programs, sustain sounds and tone's and play chords is possible.
And it is way deep posible to program ( I think it is the deepest programable and adjustible synth around).

But the most important thing about the PF sound of that time is the analog sound.

This I have created with a old italian leslie clone
pulled out the amp and added a old tube amp. (this was what cheaped the sound) and make the feel of playing those sounds....

For the acoustic sounds and such I have a litle stereo PA set.

I have tryed much keyboards and the Kurz is the way to go to start with.
An another good choice can be the new Nord keyboard. (no guitar so far as I know)

good luck

Subject: [CWSG] Just starting....Pink Floyd Lover !!

Hello All !!
I need some help and it looks like I found the right place !!
I'm not a musican and can't read music, but I am doing pretty
good despite that because I am so determined. I have spent anywhere
from 5 to 20 hours a week practicing since we started at least 10
months ago.

I am in a Classic Rock band. We have a lead guitarist, a bass
player, a drummer and me !! They have all been in bands before, but
I haven't. I guess keyboard players are not as easy to find and
therefore they are grateful for whatever support I can give, but I
want to improve my performance.

We have a Korg SP 500 and an E-MU 48 but we are thinking about
getting rid of these and starting over. So- I need advice about
what to get !! I realize I will probably have to get at least two
items.

We play mostly Pink Floyd. The "Animals" Album, "Dark Side of the
Moon", "The Wall", and "Wish You were Here" Albums.

I especially like the songs like "Have a Cigar" and "Dogs".

We are not wanting to add another guitarist at this time, so there
are times when I'm trying to sound like another guitar and I'm
backing up the guitarist during his lead on Dogs- so It's a given
that I need to be able to bend notes. I need to be able to do these
things.

1)To make that Pink Floyd organ sound which can fade in an fade out
(like in the beginning of Dogs)
2)To make the sound of a guitar with the ability to bend notes (like
in the lead parts of Dogs)
3)To be able to have that acoustic piano sound that many of the Pink
Floyd songs have.
4)To be able to play the rhythm guitar sound for back-up
5)To play the keyboard solo using the note bending (like during
Dogs)
6)To sustain a note even after letting up on the keys- I think
that's just a peddle, but not sure if there are other techniques.
7)To be able to play a chord with the touch of one key
8)To be able to easily switch from one sound to another
9)To be able to do 2 or 3 of the above items at the same time.
10)To have access to a comprehensive manual (paper or PDF) which
explains each feature of the keyboard(s) so I can actually use them.
11)To start out as simple as possible with the idea of adding and
expanding capabilities in the future.

So, that's it for now !! Hope you can help !!!
Thanks,
June
