I agree with David, owning the real deal (B3) is like money in the bank. Think of it as owning a 53' Corvette. I'll probably never gig with my 56' B3, but I figured I'd never lose money on it for the price I paid.

David Jacques wrote: From an owner of four vintage B3's and an XK3, this is my opinion: Buy the
vintage B3. For several reasons. They are readily available, they will last
long after Hammond Suzuki ends support for the "new B3" technology, they
sound better, have MUCH better keyboards (the pivot point is different), and
smell like oil. Nothing beats it! I had my organs serviced maybe once each
in 15 years. They are built like brick S^%$ Houses!

When I perform I usually have a rented B3 waiting for me. But for smaller
gigs I use an XK3 strictly for self set-ups. It's only 50 lbs and sounds
great! But, it does not have the gravitas of a real B3. However, if you are
looking for a Long-Term investment, then go with the vintage B3. It will be
around forever (at least my lifetime). All my organs start easily, look
great, and sound incredible! And there is NO desire ever to "trade-up" to
the "new model" (as I did with the VK7, XK2, CX3, and now XK3). And finally,
when I walk into my house after work, that 1955 B3 in my living room always
beings a smile to my face.

Wonder if you could elaborate about the New B3 keyboard problems. I
finally have enough money, after years of saving, to make a purchase
of either an XK3 System, New B-3 Portable, or a Vintage B-3.

It's difficult for me to decide. One of the important points for me
on the New B-3 was the new multi-contact keyboard. I don't want to
regret my purchase. Any one of these is a big investment.

The vintage is the best, but parts, maintainance, and portage are
big issues.

Would appreciate any help.
