Subject:humming sound in my cx3 need help

A few days ago I noticed a humming sound coming from my CX3 (2001
model year). Here is what happens. When I turn the unit on, the
instant the "organized" preset comes up on the screen the humming
starts. I checked my amp and there is no humm when the cx3 is
disconnected. I changed audio chords and no change. I used a ground
lift (3 into 2) on both the amp and the cx3 and no change. What I
found peculiar was that when I turn the volume knob up the humming
decreases, and goes away completely at full volume. Turning the bass,
treble or reverb knobs causes a little fluctuation in the humm, but
does not really affect it. I use the volume knob a lot and I'm
wondering if I have worn it out. Any and all suggestions are greatly
appreciated.
