I don't know - maybe the B3 Portable uses the multiple key contacts that the New B3 has - that's a heck of a lot of extra custom hardware, but it does apparently give the one final touch of realism to the playing experience that you can't get with a single-contact system. The New B3 has digital "tonewheels" but the rest of the signal path is virtually identical to that of an original B3. The XK3 system is almost entirely digital as I understand it.

Subject: [CWSG] XK3 versus the new B3 Portable

Does anyone know the distinct "technological" differences between the
xk3 system and the new b3 portable? what are the advantages that the new
b3 portable have over the XK3 system? why is the portable b3 priced so
much higher than the Xk3 and Xk3 system?
