Subject:RE: Need help finding a good preamp
Good points, Dan. A phone conversation with Steve is
almost always a learning experience. He knows a lot -
and then some...
I've never experienced the 'high pressure sales'
feeling with Steve. It's always been more of the "
What are you trying to accomplish-as a player, and how
can I help you get there ?" type of experience. Very
much like my conversations with Bruce, here & with
Mark Magdich from Sweetwater.
Regarding the original question: Putting a Speakeasy
pre-amp in the chain to the 2101 would likely be an
improvement, somewhat. I run my Yamaha S90ES through a
Speakeasy stereo keyboard pre-amp; and that takes an
already great sounding instrument, and does even
greater things with it. However, since the 2101 is the
amp/speaker and not the sound source, you're still
going to get a lot of the character of the 2101,
sonically. And, since you've already shown some
dissatisfaction with the unit, and some interest in
the Road Box, I'd continue exploring that option. Less
gear to carry/interconnect, too.
So, as Dan suggested: call Speakeasy and ask for
Steve. He'll help you out with your situation...
