Subject:XK-1 percussion level

This is in response to Ben Ninmann's question about the percussion
level on the XK-1 and how it compares with the Roland VK7.

The XK-1 percussion level on third harmonic is louder than the
Roland . On the 1 setting it is dangerously close to being too loud -
if you use slow decay, which I do. And as I found out today at a jam
session I took it to, it gets louder with the leslie sim.

But I am on the Guitar Center 30 day trial so I am not worried. This
thing has to be 1500 bucks better than a VK7 or it goes back.

There are several clones out there that do not have adjustable
percussion volume. I have said it before - this is crucial.

There are also several other leslie sims that boost the high
frequency of the percussion as it spins - it is particularly
noticeable on chorale. The VK7 boosts the highs, as does this sim.
You can cut back some of the treble horn on the sim to compensate but
then you lose some of the effect.

I generally use a leslie 860 with my VK7 but I would like to have a
usable sim. Today was trial by fire, and the sim was a bit shrill
when 3rd harmonic percussion is used. A lot of clones have suffered
from this, as we all know.

As far as the "extra voices" - I heard the piano and it wasn't
anything to write home about. Hell, Casio has a decent EP in their
199 dollar CTK 691!! Come on Hammond Suzuki!
