The term "smoking OPs" originally meant that a cigarette smoker who
was bumming cigs from friends was "smoking OPs, or smoking "other
peoples" cigs. Seger cleverly titled the album Smoking OPs as a way
of saying that he was playing other artist's songs and really laying
it down, or "smoking" the songs. And the original album artwork
featured a cover designed to resemble a Lucky Strike cigarette pack.
