Subject:RE: All XK owners midi-ing to a sound module...

Peter,
Although I do not use my XK-3 for this purpose I think you can set it up to do what you are looking to do. On page 84 of the manual it expains how to set up zones. You can have up to three zones, in addition to the internal organ sound module, that you can trigger. Each zone can have it's own midi channel, MSB/LSB-program change message to select the correct patch on your external sound module, note range, pan, velocity, etc. set and if you did not want the organ playing on that patch you could turn the internal zone off, or select only the highest or lowest note. You would then save these setting to one of the preset keys, name it Clav, or Rhodes, or whatever and you're all set. It's been a long time since I played around with my XK-3 doing this but I'm pretty sure it worked AOK. I think David J. in CA on this list does just this?
Good luck!
Bob

I may have the opportunity to sit in occasionally with a blues band. I'd be
playing organ about 90% of the time. I'd also need to provide acoustic
piano, Wurly and clavinet sounds. I recall that there were some members here
that were triggering sound modules with their XK-3's and was curious to know
how they were getting along? Because of space restraints, I'd like to do
the same thing (using just the Hammond keyboard and a compact module) and
have been considering the Kurzweil ME-1. Were there any here using this
combination and was it much of a challenge in configuring the organ's
commands to rapidly access various module patches? Thanks in advance.

Peter
