Just for the heck of it, I found a used Roland JV-1010 module with the
"Sessions" board included at a music store last night for a couple of
hundred bucks. I picked it up and plan to trigger it with the XK-1 and see
how well I can do the following: setting up preset buttons on the Hammond to
call up certain module sounds; checking the keyboard touch-to-module
dynamics, etc. The salesman said there'd be no problem returning it if it
doesn't work out. Hopefully I'll have time to set this up this evening and
see if I can indeed pull off going to gigs with one keyboard & one module.
I know that the JV-1010 is a little "long in the tooth" and I don't know how
good the grand piano (and other) sounds are but I figure if I can get the
midi thing working and be happy with the keyboard's touch response, I can
always return the JV-1010 and get an XV-2020 or some other higher quality
module. (I'm hoping that I'm pleasantly surprised and pleased with myself
for getting those extra sounds for $200) We'll see.

That's the problem. I really can't lift so many keyboards anymore. It seems
as if everything I own for gigging weighs around 50 lbs. My XK3, 50 lbs...
My ES7, 50 lbs. My Mackie SRM 450, 50 lbs. My Leslie 21, 50 lbs. This is why
I am looking for a module so it would be one less 50 lb anchor to lug
around. Let's face it, I'm tired...

Check out the Yamaha S90ES. I just picked one up. It's just like the Motif
8ES, just no sampling or sequencing. The S90 is the older version and is
just as nice. Killer piano sounds and the nicest action feel I've ever
played. Very nice and "lighter" rig (50+ lbs) in contrast to the Motif 8ES
(72lbs).
