Subject:MIDI Channel Switcher?
Folks,
I'm looking to try something a bit different (for me anyway!). I am putting together a live rig based on soft synths, and I plan on using Steinberg's V-Stack as the host app. I plan on switching between synths by using different MIDI channels (B-4 on Chan 1, Mr Ray on Ch 2, etc).
My master controller is an old Alesis Quadrasynth Plus. There are two buttons (one points left, the other points right) for changing MIDI channel. If I am just going back and forth between Ch 1 and 2, there'll probably be no problem. However, this will be onstage, lighting might not be good, etc. I'm not confident of hitting the right synth all the time just by using those two buttons to scroll left or right. You can't save the MIDI channel inside a preset; there is a global MIDI channel for all presets.
Is there any piece of gear that has something like a numeric keypad, where I could switch MIDI channel at will? Or would I need a foot controller? I'd definitely prefer something with push-buttons, if at all possible. I just want to leave the Alesis sending on Ch 1, and then use the outboard gear to switch MIDI channels being received by my PC.
Also open to alternative solutions.....
Thanks,
Doug
