Subject:OT: Billy Preston w/ King Curtis (Cross Posted to Organized List)
I got a notice from one of the online cd stores yesterday about a re-
release of the King Curtis: Live at the Filmore cd. It's supposedly
been remixed & has extra cuts, one of which is Billy Preston
doing "My Sweet Lord". Does anyone have this new version and is it
worth the upgrade? One of the things aI liked about the remixed
version of Aretha Franklin's Amazing Grace recording, along w/ the
extra cuts, was that they brought Ken Lupper's Hammond up in the
remix. Anyway, back to the subject, I really liked a lot of the
things Billy did on the original release & am kind of leaning towards
getting the new one - just looking for feedback before going ahead.
There was actually a 4-cd set released a couple years ago vontaing
the entire 3 night performance of both King Curtis & Aretha when they
did the Filmore dates. Looking online for that one though the only
place I found it said "new & used beginning at $185.00" which
elicited a huge "HUH?!?!?!?!" from me. But anyway, for all us "Fans
Of Billy" thought this one was one you might be interested in.
On a similar subject - the search did reveal a recording by Edna
Tatum & Billy Preston that sounds like it's just the 2 of them & he's
on Hammond all the time. Does anyone have any knowledge of this one?
If not, I'll post a review when it gets in. TIA.
