I second Ryan's comment. I don't use a half moon switch yet since I don't have one, I still use the foot switch of my Solton rotary cabinet but looking at DVD's of great Hammond players such as in gospel, I am inclined at saying that is the way to go.

One has always the right hand to sustain the chord that will be either accelerated or slowed down - and it looks as if the short moment (about a second) it takes to flip the half moon switch is not too hard an obstacle.

I just like the classic feel of reaching my left hand over to the switch
and flipping on/off the leslie. And that's exactly why I bought one. :-)
It was worth every penny IMO.
