Subject:Re: Monitoring level vs. audience level

One little trick that I do to set my Master Volume level is this:
After I set up, I start the demo song(s) on my XK-2 (I do this on my
other keyboard too). I then go out front and listen and set my
volume accordingly. Sometimes I have one of the guys sit at the
keyboard and fine adjust the volume to my instructions while I'm out
front. In effect you set your max volume and then adjust down from
there depending on the dynamic requirements of the song you're
playing. This works for setting stage volume. If you have a soundman
and you're running your keyboards to the PA you want to not overdo
the stage volume and let the soundman cover you're output from the
board. It's very easy to let your amp overpower the main mix if
you're not careful. Your monitor settings are just for you, no one
else gets that so do with that what you need and try to trust the
soundman to handle the rest.
