Subject:Re: Chuck Leavell and the Stones

Great thread! The Stone have always been a keyboard heavy band. Going back to Ian Stewart the original piano player who turned roadie/stage manager when they achieved early fame. "he didn't have the right look". Later with the late ,great Nicky Hopkins as Phil mentioned below. Nichy Hopkins was my piano hero back then. He was all over the place on everyones records. He did a lot of great playing on early Steve Miller Band albums like "Your Saving Grace". Thanks for reminding me of him. Billy Preston filled the prestigious Stones keyboard chair in the "Black & Blue" era. I have a 'Bridges To Babylon" DVD and C. Leavell is all over the place in the mix filling in those important parts. For those of you unfamiliar with Chuck Leavell he played with the Allman Bros. (think Jessica piano solo) and had his own band called Sea Level. (C. Leavell, get it?) Also the poster boy at the GOFF Professional website seated behind the MIDI B-3.
