Subject:Re: New Member; Asking For Advice, Leslie 3300 & H-S XK-3
I guess I could throw another log on the fire here and mention that it
does seem some members prefer the XK1 to the XK3.
Just from info and comments I've read here the last several weeks, I'd
be buying the XK1 if I wanted another stage keyboard.
Per tubes, it seems the 3300 has a tube stage preamp that, just from
looking at it, seems quite similar to Motion Sound's Pro-145 preamp
which works very well as a tube preamp stage. I don't feel that
I "need" anything to play live with my Pro-145's preamp, controls set
up the way I've learned to - nothing's lacking.
However I got the SE 122AMA's because I like the concept, which turned
out to be just what I hoped it would = totally cool. 122AMA meet Pro-
145, it's like adding another dimentsion of smooth fat, warm sound to
what already sounded fine. I'll be using it because I like it,
not "need" it.
I love how the 122AMA interacts with my big power cabinets - that would
almost be closer to "need" since I'd miss it if I took it out of the
equation :) But I like to look at this subject like 'want'
versus 'need.' I don't feel like telling anyone, "You need this in
order to sound good." The newer clones and better amplifiers and power
cabinets sound too good to claim that you can't go from music store to
stage, set up and play and sound just fine. But there are things that
once you hear them added to your system - you won't want to give 'em
back. I'm keeping mine... and adding an old SE stereo rack with Howlers
I found on eBay to my EP's. I like the way it sounds with my Wurly's
especially.
Pleasant shopping y'all ~ Walter j
