Subject:Re: OT: I've been screwed on eBay
I'm not sure if it's a glitch in eBay's programming - or a phisher -
but I've been hit twice recently when logging into eBay, with an
error message to re-enter my password - the message just didn't look
quite right, like I'd been redirected. I've immediately closed the
page, got back to my home page, waited about 30 seconds and started
again 'from scratch' = and got no request to re-enter password. I've
used the password a zillion times and never had this happen, unless
it was an obvious finger-fumble from me that I was practicaly waiting
for the message to enter it again, or absent mindedly entering the
wrong password and knowing it was the wrong number of characters.
My Bulk email is full of notices that my PayPal account has had a new
person added as a buyer or my eBay account needs verification - with
the correct return addresses I finally had to block as Spam! I let
the legitimate ones go to Bulk mail too and check for them when I
have an eBay/PayPal item active. There's dozens of other items - free
iPod, free LCD TV, Shop For Free, Winning ticket notification. The
really dumb ones are misspelled, like 'Lo HoOmn LoEbn Noew'...why
would you want to do any kind of business with some creep that can't
even spelll? And I can find my own VvIIAgG-Ra when I need it<-what is
it? :)
I think someone is very close to a having a legitimate-looking
counterfeit eBay site or at least log-in page... so if anything seems
a little 'off' or unusual, close the log-in (or whatever) page, get
out and try a bit later. Everyone should make sure they're using the
encrypted login page with the 'lock' icon. I'm not going to stop
using eBay, but I report things like this and I'm very careful
logging in and keeping my 'antenna' up for any weirdness.
EBay will respond to email requests for help with disputes, but in
the automated section they want you to talk to the other party first -
maybe that's why the dispute console is recycling? Maybe you can get
the buyer's number somewhere in one of the Help pages using the
auction number and their eBay and email address to show you have an
ongoing transaction. This happened once to me, and I got it sorted
out after about a week - buyer had changed their email address and
had no clue that it would affect eBay - wondered why they hadn't got
a bill so they could pay me. I think I just kept replying on eBays
automated menu responses that whatever response I was on didn't help
me, and finally got to the email/contact page.
Good luck with this, Josh. I think eBay will help you if you just
keep working through their Help menus. Walter j
