The MKS20 is pretty cheap these days: $200-$350. I still am a huge fan of these modules. They're large (2 rack spaces), and compared to some more contemporary piano emulators, not quite as "realistic", and it has no reverb. What it does have is a massive sound, which sounds excellent unaccompanied, and cuts through the din of any band in context.

8 banks of 8 sounds each (3 pianos, 1 vibraphone, 1 clavinet, 1 harpsichord, and 2 electric pianos in each bank, tweakable), with chorus and tremolo. The rhodes patches with the vibrato engaged is very very realistic and satisfying.

I used one for 12 years (unheard of for me, right?) and it cut through my latin rock band with 3 percussionists and a guitarist with a Carlos Santana fixation. It was the bedrock of everything I did. And layered with anything else, strings, horns, synths, that MKS 20 never got buried.

So for $350 or less, you're getting enormous bang for the buck.

Keep in mind that if you do find anything you like at NAMM, you won't be able to get it until at least June, and most likely August/September, so build that wait into your equation.

I´m about to get me another electric piano, module or keyboard. I´m thinking of either an MKS-20 or an RD 300s. Can you tell me if there is any differences in the spec´s, apart from the weight and keybed?
