Not just Voce fans, but for users of Pro Tools, Digital Performer, etc., and software plugins. I've always wondered how they make software versions of hardware and get them to react like hardware. The Bombfactory plugin that Dave made, I use all the time and it is a very useful and good sounding compressor modeled after the Universal Audio 1176 which is a staple in pro recording studios around the world. I empathize with Dave for the hardwork he and many plugin makers put in to come up with astounding software. When these softwares get stolen or cracked, it's a let down. I'm not sure if the future will be for software as it has been for hardware, where it keeps its value or increases as it passes into vintage-hood, but it is a thankless job to burn brain cells only to have the software cracked. It's the same thing as going to an audio store and breaking in and stealing the hardware version, but for some reason the nature of computers makes it look harmless.
I'm wondering if original versions of Bombfactory software dating the early 21st century will be commanding high prices on eBay 30 years from now much like a vintage B3 does or a vintage Voce might. Who knows how devices like iLok and other unforseen anti-pirate systems will change the way software is used and recycled.
It is alchemy the way software comes together under the guidance of people who know how to do these things. And in a similar fashion where many great artists we love and admire don't get the recognition they deserve while they are alive, the designers of music software are forced down that same road. I, for one, refuse to use cracked software on my recording rig. It will take this type of mentality to keep music software designers off the endangered species list.
