Subject:Re: Solton Leslie footswitch
Hi again, once again I need the valued advice of this group!
I've got the Solton Turbo-Jet described below working almost
perfectly. I found the correct connector (Amphenol Ecomate) and had it
hooked it up by 4-core mains flex to a stripped-out Marshall
PEDL-90004 (heavy-duty twin footswitch), and I can now get the motors
spinning at both speeds.
However -- there's one more obstacle I've got to overcome.
When you use either footswitch (on/off or fast/slow), there is a
rather loud "pop" over the speakers -- even with volume at zero.
I understand that this might be because the SPDT switches are
break-before-make, and so the voltage "spikes" when the switches
change poles, causing the popping. I'm not sure of this -- I'm not
sure exactly what model the switches are in the PEDL-90004.
I've been told that using some type of capacitor between the on/off
switch's contacts would prevent the spikes and stop the popping -- is
this correct?
Alternatively -- if there are any Solton owners or former owners out
there who might be able to look inside their footswitches and tell me
how they're wired up and what kind of switches are in there, that'd be
another good idea.
Oh, and I'm not really an electrician, so don't be surprised if I
haven't got some 'facts' right!
Many thanks
Hugo
