Subject:Re: Compression: What is it? What does it do?

Dave pretty much gave the straght-forward of how compression works.
For pianos, it is very useful for most music styles, but you want to
be as discreet with it as you can so as not to be too punchy or shrill
in the end. Of course with synths and piano samples, a good
combination of eq and compression block and a very short dark reverb
(gives sort of a piano body resonance character) I recommend short-
reerb-->compressor-->eq chain, unless your piano sample is exessivly
bright to start with, put the eq-->compressor. Let your ears guide
you as you shape the sound you want, and then try it out with your
band, see how it mixes with everyone else.
