Subject:Re: Piano sound????

Just throwing in my 2 cents, I agree on the P90, good action, good
sounds, I can carry it with one hand, I'm not impressed with the
MIDI either.

I'm still working on getting a good piano sound for a jazz situation,
I've used the EMU Pro Piano Modules, the Yamaha piano module, and now
the onboard sounds of the P90. I want to be able to cut through
bass, drums and crowd noise but still not sound too bright. I've tried
using EQ. I haven't tried any Aural Exciter type units. I use JBL
powered speakers, which do a pretty good job but sound a little harsh
at high volume for piano sounds. Has anyone found a combination of
piano sound and speakers for jazz that they're really happy with?

>Ah that great "won't cut through the mix" factiod. I took that as
gospel until I tried it.. first with a Kurzweil grand sample from a
1000PX rack unit. And more recently with a Yamaha P80 and P90 in a
rowdy rock cover band.. nothing about the grands keeps them from being
heard, at least through full-frequency speakers.

Yamaha P90.. killer action, great pianos, light weight, 88 keys. Crap
MIDI implementation, though, as a controller you'd better do your
homework.
