Per business tactics, I've heard for a long time that big Japanese
businesses don't see much strategic tactical difference between
warfare, which the big guys at the top study, from the old samurai
fiefdoms and warlords and kingdoms up through WWII and to date. So
some of what they do in business, not every day and not all the
time, can be based on this knowledge. And sometimes doing some
intricate and delicate balancing of one "rival" company against
another - although it may be only what you see directly on its face,
also may not be - since what they really could want is an unexpected
result which turns out to their benefit some time down the road.
There's an interesting group of small business players involved in
this latest shuffle...
*I used to go fishing all the time off Redondo Beach. The best
fishing rods and reels you could get for coastal ocean fishing were
made by a company called Daiwa. The best boat you could get a day or
overnight trip ticket on to go out to the Channel Islands looking
for white sea bass or bluefin tuna, yellowtail, or just big kelp
bass was The Daiwa - Japanese-American owner, great 'pro' Japanese-
American fishing crew that could help you land the biggest fish of
your life without going way down past the tip of Mexico. One day I
asked my favorite crew guy, "How come the boat is called, "Daiwa,"
and all the good fishing tackle gear is "Daiwa" brand?" He
said, "Means something," at which I naturally asked, "What?" His
reply: "Victory to Japan." eek?
Now this guy may have been pulling my leg.. but I don't think so :)
Hmm.. per the links below looks like they makes watches too.. Wonder
if the big boss has lunch with the head of Suzuki occasionally - or
if they're at war? Probably even a better time to have lunch
together!
