Subject:wanted: Leslie amp
I posted this to hammond_zone, so forgive me if you, the reader, are
on both lists.
Hello all,
I'm ready to take the dive into my first Leslie, albeit slowly. :) I
already have a cab, motors, speakers, etc. I'd like to purchase an
amp, but there is no way I can justify the cost of a 14x/122 amp just
yet (finding them from $550-$700). I'm wondering if there are other
amps that sound good, maybe pulled from single-speed Leslies, that
would be a good "starter amp." For example, I've seen lots of talk
about 44W and the like. Just as long as I can get a good sound, I
would be happy. Also, I could upgrade as I went along, like adding
choral, etc.
Any suggestions or offers to sell would be appreciated. Also, if you
think there is another way to get a good Leslie sound using some other
type of amp (solid state, etc.) I would be very open to that as well
(so long as you can tell me how to overcome the speed-switching
issue). Basically, I'm just looking to get some air moving.
FYI, I'm not using a real console (just yet), only a clone. Also, I'm
located in Texas.
