__Mr. Carlson, who started the Northwest band website, is named
Sam....we call him Sammy. He was the bass player for the Regents of
Tacoma. My band, The Legendary Beachcombers, used to play with them
once in a while at the old Red Carpet Club in South Tacoma in the
mid 60s. That Wurly in the pics was purchased new by me in August,
1961. It was a 140 series and cost $400, quite a sum in those
days. I played it thru Magnatone Stereo Vibrato Amp...also cost
$400 new. That Magnatone had an awesome sound and the stereo
vibrato gave the piano an erie, almost organ type sound. I heard
that Lonnie Mack's piano guy still uses two of the amps when on tour
with Lonnie. I bought the M-3 in 1964 and ran it thru a Leslie 122
until we crashed our van in August of '65. The organ and Leslie
were both a total loss so I went with the new Farfisa Combo Compact
which had just come out. I then moved up to a Vox
Continental....and in 1966 I stepped up and got my first B-3. It
was a 1958 model with a 21H Lesie and it was a screamer. Bought the
B-3 and Leslie from a guy in Seattle for $1600. I sold it in 1975
and lost track of the organ. About 5 years ago the guy who owns it
now called me and said the B3 still sounds as good as new and
anytime I wanted to play it to let him know. Lots of good memories
in that old Hammond.
