Subject:X-5 pedals

Do the foot pedals need to be hooked up to operate the x-5? At a gig,
the organ kept cutting out and I noticed the 9-pin plug that goes from
the pedals to the organ was a loose/weak connection. The first time I
played the organ it did not function at full volume without the
pedals. However it seems to malfunction when I press any percussion/
vibrato buttons as well. Any help would be great. I just spent good
money to get it working.
