This actually reminds me a lot of the system I used in the 70's when
I actually had a band that played out and a guitarist who was too
f**king loud. Had an A-100 and Leslie 31H. Sounded nice for the
volume levels it was capable of, which wan't much.
I copied our bass player's Acoustic 360 cabinet (18" folded horn).
Sticking out the top was an actual leslie horn/motor powered by dual
60 watt drivers. The driver and motor we're within the bass cabinet.
The spinning horn sat on the top out in the open unfettered by any
cabinet. Crossed over with an Altec-Lansing 800Hz crossover and
powered by an Ampeg V4. Not for the Jimmy Smith fan. But for a cover
band that probably should have called itself Deep Heep based on the
majority of the stuff we did, it was pretty awesome. Never really
missed the bottom rotor in the band situation. It was great to be
heard.
