Subject:Re: Hammond players who (sometimes) didn't use a Leslie...
Hi Simon,
>A lot of 1960s bubblegum and film music used a Leslie-less Hammond sound which is often mistaken for a combo organ.
I think one of the most famous examples is the Animals' "House of the Rising Sun." Although Alan Price is best known for playing a Vox, I remember reading an interview with where he said the solo on HotRS was an M102. I never quite believed it until I modified my setup to allow my Speakeasy pre to go either direct to my stage monitor or to the Leslie. (I wanted to get the "Jon Lord sound" for certain songs.) With the proper amount of distortion, V3 vibrato, and less 16' drawbar than in most traditional Hammond settings, I've been able to get the HotRS sound on my BX-3 in the 'direct' configuration.
Regards,
