No, he's a tone monster and just likes to feel it; he's not only a killer drummer (think Little Feat's Ritchie Hayward and Paul Jackson from the MGs), but literally has the best sounding (and best tuned) drums of ANYONE I've ever heard at any level. Like the rest of us, he's trying to expand his knowledge about tone and how to get it. Since he is always at the mercy of soundmen, he thought it would be in his best interest to learn how to mic drums, how to eq them, gate and compress them (if needed) and how to get them to sound full, not loud (which he learned how to do when we were 20) through a PA. And at home in his basement through a PA is the best way to do it.

Trust me, not too many drummers like him out there. But yeah, we sometimes give him grief! "Yeah, um, Engineer-Guy, just make the drums sound good, and try to fit some vocals in somewhere around them!" ;-)

This sounds like an incredible product! Congrats Steve!

PS... Your drummer has his kit mic'd up in a basement for rehearsal? Sounds
like you need a new drummer...
