Subject:direct box for keyboard

I was just told by a sound man that I should run both left and right
1/4 inch cables out of my keyboard (yamaha p90 or Ensoniq ks32) or
Korg cx3 into a direct box to take the HiZ output to a LowZ signal and
then into the XLR inputs on my amp (Yorkville kb200). He said the
stereo signal would be cleaner and sound better even when running in a
mono combo amp like my Yorkville.
Anyone have any experience doing this?
