Subject:Re: Clonewheel seat with back?
Walter,
I have both bench style and drummer stool (called thrones) sytle seat that I use. Although the bench is nice cause you can slide left and right to get to the sweet spot needed when playing, the thick pad on the throne is way more comfy and the throne breaks down to a nice small size. I use a Pearl model that you can buy a back rest for. My back also kills me from time to time and my drummer uses a throne with a back rest and I tried his one time and it was OK. Not set up properly for me but it was nice to be able to lean back. One time at a musci store I sat in one of the QuikLoc models that had a back and it was very comfortable. I've never gotten aroound to buying one but they do look interesting. Check out models D-749 and D-742. 749 is way cool in that the back rest is adjustable from the seat so you can position it in just the right spot. My concern in looking at the design is if the stool would want to tip from side to side as you were leaning left or right.

Hope these help that aching back!

PS...if you get one of these let us know what you think of it, or what ever you get.

I've been looking for awhile now for a good seat to play sitting down.
I have to have a back rest, really bad back. So far the 'best' I've
been able to some up with, which should be pretty good, is a Roc-N-Soc
drum seat with heavy duty tripod base and adjustable backrest. I tried
the 'star' shaped office chair type base with 5 legs/sliders on the
bottom to move. Too much of a hassle to pack, 3 separate and kind of
awkward/heavy pieces to put togetherk, took up more room than gear
bags, etc. The tripod base turned out to be even heavier, more hassle
to put together, and if 'ya don't watch your balance = you're going
down to the left or right!
I think maybe even a good folding chair with a comfortable back that
would fold flat and pass hand-to-hand onstage flat would be better, but
I don't have a clue where to start looking. If someone has an idea or
experience with this, any info/tips is most welcome - aside from learn
to sit without a backrest = back says no way ever again. TIA ~ Walter
