Folding chairs will generally be too low. I've used a RocnSoc for years (tripod base) and never had an issue with balance. Obviously, setting it to its widest settings is crucial.

The new Nitro series from RocnSoc is hydraulic, which will cut down your setup time (but even with the old series, what set up time was there? Drop the cushion down, tighten the thumbscrew, and you're in), but better yet, comes in an XT model, which is higher than their traditional seats. So you can set the tripod out to its maximum, and safest footing, and compensate with the taller height.

Other than that, the only "backed" seat is made by Quiklok, and it's the D-749. (http://www.quiklok.com/ select D-749)

I had an earlier version of this, and the back was too close to the seat, which meant while my back was nice and rigid, my nether regions felt a little like I was at Spin class.

This new design has a nicer square seat (the other had a round seat, smaller), and it looks like the back is now more adjustable.
