Subject:Re: Wakeman "Roundabout" Hammond Solo
Greg,
The guys I play with are terrific, not just because they are good
guys but because they all love the Hammond Organ, and they give me
lot's of room to do my thing.. They refer to the band as "The B3
Band" (although that's not the name of the band)... but because it's
so Hammond oriented.
We primarily focus on Classic Rock (mostly 70's) music that has
Hammond organ in it.. a couple of examples of hammond-oriented
tunes that we play... Green Eyed Lady by Sugarloaf (contains the
best organ solo in pop music history as far as I am concerned), we
also play Hold Your Head Up by Argent (more great hammond work in
there), Lazy by Deep Purple, Whiter Shade of Pale.... we play
classic early Santana (with Greg Rolie), Rare Earth, Deep Purple
etc. (we're just adding Hush and Roundabout, although I have to say
that I am finding it a challenge to capture the essence of the
Hammond work in Hush, not so much the solo, but the rhythmic intro,
but it's a fun challenge).
You can see the song list (although it isn't complete anymore), and
even listen to some sound clips at www.rockitscience.ca. The sound
clips are from a CD we completed in January this year, and it's a
new Korg BX3 through a Speakeasy Preamp, with a hotrodded 147
Leslie. Check out the website.. I have MP3's I can forward if
you're interested. Craig
