Subject:My XK-3 won't power up.
I posted this problem on the XK-3 group last Sunday evening. I
thought I'd post it here since it's happened to me twice.
My XK-3 wouldn't turn on...dead as a brick. I popped the hood and
checked for the obivious, burned out fuses, loose connections with
no luck. I even swapped the power cords.
The following day, I took it in to my keyboard repair place which is
also an authorized Hammond dealer/repair center. They put it on the
bench immediately and determined it was a bad plastic 4 pronged
connector (molex??)coming from the transformer to the pcb board
(whatever that is I don't know). They seemingly solved the problem
by resoldering it to the board directly.
Last night I was setting up for a rehearsal when I experienced the
same problem. I was early enough to where I could pop open the hood
and do another visual check for the same obvious signs of trouble
again. While fiddling with the wires near the switch (right side of
the keyboard) the keyboard fired-up. I was able to play through
rehearsal with no other problems. As I was breaking down my rig, I
noticed the same problem. This time I didn't open it up. I'm
planning on taking it in the morning. I have a performance
tomorrow.
Is there any XK-3 users here who have experienced a similar issue
with there unit?
Thanks and sorry in advance for the longwinded post.
Dan
PS: If there are any San Diego area XK-3'rs in the area who might
be willing to rent me their XK-3 for one day (Church gig...2
services) please email me directly.
