Subject:Re: Electro/OB3 midi question
It depends on what type of MIDI messages the OB3 sends but you should be able to do it.
One way would be to use a MIDI Solutions Event Processor between the MIDI out of the
OB3 and MIDI in of the Electro. An Event Processor is a small box that you can program to
convert MIDI messages from the ones that the OB3 send to the ones that the Electro
expects.
Bruce Wahler at www.ashbysolutions.com carries Event Processors and can program it for
you. I know that he knows the Electro MIDI messages because he programmed an Event
Processor to convert VOCE MIDI Drawbar messages into Electro messages for me.
While you are at it you may be able to make some of the other controls on the OB3 control
stuff on the Electro. It depends on how many MIDI numbers you will take up converting the
drawbar messages. On most keyboards a drawbar just uses one MIDI number. On some
(like I think the older Hammond XB-2) the mapping was more complicated and takes up
more numbers.
Good luck - a very worthwhile project.
