Subject:Re: B4 vs. EVB3, and using the Leslie sim separately
I used to have both, but prefered the EVB3, by quite a bit. Others I
have known to have both tend to feel the same way, but its naturally
a matter of personal choice, and what you are looking for in your
organ sound. The killer C/V, the Leslie sim, the overdrive sims, and
the overall organic thunka clunka sound, along with a strong and pure
like tone, along with tonewheel age parameters set it apart, along
with signifianctly better bottom end. To me it is at its absolute
best for simulating the old jazz guys, from gritty Jimmy Smith Blue
Note, all the way up to cleaner Don Patterson and even Larry Young.
It does nice Chester Thompson sounds as well. I haven't heard the B4
II yet, though it looks like they are aimed at bringing it up to the
EVB3's features. I don't know if they modified there basic tonewheel
sinewave.
Assuming you have a MAC, the EVB3 is even more tempting, as there has
been a few upgrades, including an uncolored leslie stop to rotating
effect. Hard to explain, but the old cross-platform version I have
has a coloration to the stopped leslie when you use one of the
cabinet simulations (wood, proline, and two others that I never
use). The new one takes that away in stop mode, so you get what the
old dry tone had when you are stoped, and then you get the cabinet
resonance when you go to chorale or tremolo. They also have an no
foldback option for BC-like LH bass.
It used to be you could 30-day trial the EVB3 in Logic. The B4 has a
limited demo version, at least they used to. See if you can AB them
both.

Anybody here played around with that, and how well does that work?

EVERYTHING sounds good through a Leslie, just ask the Beatles. I
often

It makes a great pad that's unlike all those Korg M1 pads we've

in 'virtual world'. Comments?
