Subject:B4 vs. EVB3, and using the Leslie sim separately
Anybody out there have both B4 and EVB3? I'm entertaining the idea of investing in Logic as a VST host, mainly to keep my VST
options open (you can run any VST in Logic, but you can only run the Logic instruments like EVB3, EVD6 and EVP88 in Logic and on a
Mac). I'm curious to hear how these two soft-Hammonds compare, because if EVB3 is as good if not better than B4 I can save myself
$200 not duplicating instruments. I realize that NI just released a "new-and-improved" version of B4, and if someone is familiar
with it also I'd like to hear about the improvements.
Also, if I understand it correctly, with both B4 and EVB3 you can route other instruments (both softsynths and sound modules)
through the Leslie sim independent of the Hammond emulation. Anybody here played around with that, and how well does that work?
One of my frustrations with the Leslie sims in the CX-3 and Electro is that obviously you can only use them with that keyboard.
Personally, (and I don't think I'll find many who disagree) EVERYTHING sounds good through a Leslie, just ask the Beatles. I often
run the Wurli on my Electro through the Leslie sim on Slow because sometimes I prefer that kind of subtle phasing to an actual phase
shifter. Ever heard Mellotron strings through a Leslie on slow? It makes a great pad that's unlike all those Korg M1 pads we've
heard for years. Anyway, I'd like to be able to do stuff like this in 'virtual world'. Comments?
