Subject:Re: Muddy Nord

Hi,

Let me add something, for anyone who is buying a clone: When auditioning a prospective keyboard, use an amp and speakers that are the same, or close to, the kind of rig you plan to use on the gig. Some clones tend to sound muddy or shrill through certain amps, especially "keyboard" amps. Sometimes you can EQ the offending frequencies out, but the amp is a critical part of a Hammond clone.

Also, unless you plan on using the organ mostly in a recording environment, don't use headphones -- even though it might be the only way to hear the organ on a busy Saturday afternoon. Come back at another time, and get the store clerk to set up the right amp and speakers for your needs. The sound through headphones and the sound through say, a Roland KB500 are quite a bit different.

What are you using to amplify your Nord? Does it have more EQ than say, bass and treble? If so, try playing around with the low-mids (to remove the muddyness), or boosting the upper midrange (2-3KHz). A Leslie's horn does this naturally.

Regards,

-BW
