I've got another one to add to the list...How about a Peavey DPM C8. If you
can find one someone wants to sell. It blows away the Roland A-90(yes I have
one). The original had a built in floppy drive, 8-zones, 4-sliders, large
display, 2-CV pedals, 1 control pedal, breath-controller option,
arppegiator, etc., etc. The down side of the original was its ungodly
weight. I took care of this by finding the DPM C8x, it's smaller and weighs
less but lacks the FDD. Everything else was ported over. I'm keeping the DPM
C8 at home and use the DPM C8x out live. Works wonderfully with my modules
and I would like to find out how it works with a soft synth/notebook/muse
setup in the future.
Just my .02

Bruce, I couldn't agree more. My favorite LH controller configuration was
the one on my MultiMoog (I can't believe I ever sold
that!!). The short pitch ribbon lent itself exceedingly well to adding just
a little natural vibrato by resting your forefinger on
the indent and subtly wiggling it back and forth, much like you would a
violin string. Also was great for doing hammer-ons. Way
expressive.
The only two-wheels-plus-ribbon format I know of is on the K2600, which
unfortunately is not the easiest synth to play fast lead
lines on. On the K2661 (the 61-key synth-weighted version of the K2600)
Kurzweil stupidly dropped the short ribbon, even though (to
me) it made more sense on that keyboard. Even more dumb, on their PC2 line
(which stands for Performance Controller!) they don't
have a ribbon, but on the SP76/88 Stage Pianos they do. Another great
example of "who's making these decisions?".

I actually like the two-wheels-plus-ribbon format. There are certain things
that just seem more intuitive on a ribbon.
